Crochet Crazy by aneesah Crochet Crazy by aneesah
(Yeah, I just liked that title because of the "Cr".)

Ehm, anyway, was bored, started to learn crochet online, did one rather ugly scarf with old yarn and plastic toy hook, went to store to buy yarn for this project, yarn was expensive and came in very small bundles, hence I didn't have enough white yarn to make a mostly-white bag.

So this is only my second project, took just over 24 hours, lots of ugliness and mistakes, and sore fingers, but crochet is good.

Wow, what a cool idea. is the yarn you chose cotton or bamboo? if it was that could be why it was sold in small bundles and they are very expensive. Acrylic yarns are much cheaper and easier to find in soooo many colors. where I live you could by a skein of Redheart Brand yarn for 1.99.

Your purse came out beautiful, did you make that button?

Oh, and no, the button was from my mum's sewing box -- probably from a blouse of hers or something. :giggle:

I.. actually think it's chunky acrylic yarn. :nod: Definitely not bamboo, and didn't seem like cotton. Most yarns are expensive in Malaysia, because they're imported, and because of our currency. ^^;

But I live in the UK now, so it's better here. :D

wow, Malaysia, and the UK. I live in the USA on the Atlantic coast. I love DA because there's such a diverse community here.

True, dA represents the world's artists quite well, no? :D

Malaysia doesn't have much of the "western" (crocheting, knitting, etc.) crafts stuff, but other materials I found quite cheap back there. Like zippers! (the normal kind though)

There are other kinds of zippers?

Ooh, chunky plastic zippers (they're bigger/wider), metal zippers, separable zippers (like on hoodies), double-sided zippers (for reversible jackets etc.), lots of things I've never managed to find back there... =P

Congrats on finishing it so early! I took ages with mine.

I learned crochet by making bags and purses, not scarfs.

^^; It's embarrassing for me to see this bag again. And yeah, I don't really have a purpose for scarves if I make them, and so bags and purses are more useful. :D

We had to knit scarves for school and mine is just like lying around...

I have too many purses now.

Looks great! The color combos are good. And for estimating yarn needed, I share your pain. XD

Cross-stitch lah! "crosstrich" sounds more like "ostrich". The bird. :giggle:

Cross-stitch is even more time-consuming. Dulu I rajin jugak do them, but I gave up, it takes forever to finish a big pattern.

Thanks!

Yeah I saw that once. There was an incredible list of sites for knitting and crochet. But sewing sites are very rare though, how sad. :(

There are a lot of general crafts forums, though. I've been around craftster.org, and they seem to have a nice sewing section too.

Very cool. I've always thought crochet was weird compared to knitting as you only use one needle, therefore one hand. The colour theme's very Jamaican flag. That reminds me of a reggae Dior collection. Great way to utilize all those free SPM waiting time.

Oh yeah, Jamaica! I was trying to figure out what flag the colours were like... :D At first, when it was just red and white, it screamed Indonesia. :giggle:

Knitting is mostly to scarves and sweaters, which we obviously have no use of, so I took up crocheting instead. :nod:

Cool, my sister taught me how to crochet, and I first I got everything mixed up since I'm a lefty and she is a righty... I eventually got the hang of it, but I have never made anything bit.

Ah yeah, I imagine it would be hard for lefties to learn from righties! ^^;

I like doing projects, it's just the buying-stuff part that I don't like.

A lil' more than 24 hours. But not 24 hours straight lah. :giggle:

And yeah, but I'll pretend the white bit of the strap isn't there if I'm wearing the bag, I'll ... cover it with my hand. :P

Hahaha, buildings! :giggle: My Indonesian maid taught me a bit of crochet when I was little, but yeah, I've forgotten. So I re-learned through the internet and now actually know the names of those stitches instead of just doing them.

Thank you!
